What documents do I have to bring?

It is necessary to bring your passport with a remaining validity of six months from the date of entry into the country. Spanish citizens do not need a visa to enter the country (for other nationalities, consult the Moroccan embassy in your country). In all cases, the maximum legal stay for tourists is 3 months. If you wish to prolong it, you must address the police services within 8 days from the arrival.

Do I have to be vaccinated?

No vaccines are compulsory to travel, although typhus, hepatitis A and tetanus vaccines are recommended if you travel to areas that are less frequented by tourists.

What do I need to know if I travel with my car?

To travel with your car it is necessary, in addition to a driving licence and the documents of the vehicle, to have the car licence and the international insurance. However when entering Moroccan territory, the type of car brought in is noted in your personal record. Not accompanying the same car when departing could cause serious problems, and therefore we recommend departing always with the same vehicle that you entered with.

What is the currency of Morocco?

The national currency is the dirham, divided in 100 cents. There are coins of 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents, and of 1, 5 and 10 dirhams; and notes of 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 dirhams. The dirham is not officially convertible in foreign countries, and its import and export are forbidden. There aren't any restrictions for the entry of foreign currency and credit cards, although the exchange rate can be unpredictable. It is recommended to change your money in banks.

What do I need to know about Customs?

Moroccan Customs are allowed to confiscate any vehicle engaged in "smuggling". This includes the transport of forbidden goods (drugs, magazines or videos about sex, religious publicity or critical publications about the political situation), or undeclared goods of an amount superior to the permitted amount, such as alcohol (1 bottle of wine and one hard spirits or 3 bottles of wine per adult) or tobacco (200 cigarrettes or 50 cigars or 250 gr. of tobacco per adult). In any case, it is not possible to claim ignorance or personal use. More information can be found at the web site of the Moroccan Customs.

What is the official language of Morocco?

Arabic is the official language. French (often used together with the Arabic by the administration) and Berber are also widely spoken. Spanish is spoken mainly in the north of the country, in the area from the old protectorate.

Is there any time difference from Spain?

In winter, it is one hour earlier than in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic islands, and it is the same time as in the Canary Islands. In summer, two hours earlier.
